Passages about torture of non-believers in the Koran

www.samesexprocreation.com/document/koran.htm

What follows are passages from the Koran which "normal", "peaceful" believers of Islam accept as legitimate spirituality and love from their god. To a skeptic, it is just the opposite - neither spiritual nor loving, but rather extremely dangerous words for those who so easily abuse such words by putting them into action because it is "Allah's will". Allah is love, and teaches the truth in the afterlife, so it is an evil opinion to say that Allah tortures in the afterlife.

As some examples of how nasty these quotes are, consider:

Surah 4: Al Nisa: The Women (section 8, #56)
        "Those who reject our signs, we shall soon cast into the Fire;
as often as their skins are roasted through, we shall change
them for fresh skins that they may taste the penalty, ..."

Surah 8: Al Anfal: The Spoils of War (section 2, #12)
"... I [Allah] will instil terror into the hearts of unbelievers:
smite ye above their necks and smite all their fingertips off them."

    Surah 14: Ibrahim: Abraham (section 3, #16-17)
"In front of such a one [unbeliever] is Hell, and he is given
for drink, boiling fetid water. In gulps will he sip it, but
never will he be near swallowing it down his throat:

    Surah 14: Ibrahim: Abraham (section 7, #49)
"And thou wilt see the sinners that day bound together in fetters
        - their garments will be liquid pitch, and their faces
        covered with Fire."

Surah 23: Al Muminun: The Believers (section 6, #103-104)
"... The Fire will burn their faces, and they will therein
       grin, with their lips displaced."

The Koran is divided into 114 Surahs (chapters), which are ordered in different ways depending on the organizer of the Koran you are reading. The following quotes come from the version of the Koran titled "The Meaning of the Holy Quran" by Abdullah Yusuf Ali (Amana Publications, Bethesda, MD), 8th edition.

In summary, these quotes convey the message that non-believers face the most hideous forms of torture in the Fire for all eternity when they die, an eternity of pain and misery based on the actions in a short life - which seems like cruel and unusual punishment from a loving god. There are many such passages throughout the Koran. Other passages give orders to kill others. All of this to scare people into be faithful.

Surah 2: Al Baqarah: The Heifer (section 4, #39)
"... But those who reject Faith and belie our signs, they shall be
companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein."

Surah 2: Al Baqarah: The Heifer (section 24, #191)
"... But if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those
    who suppress Faith."

Surah 2: Al Baqarah: The Heifer (section 27, #217)
"... And if any of you turn back from their Faith and die in
unbelief, ... they will be companions of the Fire and will
    abide therein."

Surah 2: Al Baqarah: The Heifer (section 34, #257)
"... Of those who reject Faith the patrons are the Evil Ones, from
light they will lead them forth into the depths of darkness. They
will be the companions of the Fire, to dwell therein (forever)."

Surah 2: Al Baqarah: The Heifer (section 38, #275)
    "... But those who repeat (the offence) are companions of the Fire;
    they will abide therein (forever)."

NOTE: In this case, the offence is "usury", the lending of
money for interest. The Koran itself is silent on how
high the interest rate must be for the lender to be tortured
        for all eternity.

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 1, #4)
"... Then those who reject Faith in the signs of Allah will
suffer the severest penalty, and Allah is exalted in might,
    Lord of retribution."

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 2, #10)
"Those who reject Faith .. they are themselves but fuel for
    the Fire."

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 2, #12)
"Say to those who reject Faith; soon will ye be vanquished
and gathered together to Hell - an evil bed indeed."

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 6, #56)
"As to those who reject Faith, I [Allah] will punish them
with terrible agony in this world and in the hereafter,
nor will they have anyone to help."

NOTE: which "radical Islam" argues that they can be the
instrument of this terrible agony in this world

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 12, #116)
"Those who reject Faith - ... they will be companions of the
    Fire - swelling therein (forever)."

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 14, #131)
"Fear the Fire, which is prepared for those who reject Faith."

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 18, #177)
"Those who purchase unbelief at the price of Faith - not the
least harm will they do to Allah, but they will have a
    grevious punishment."

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 20, #192)
"Our Lord! any whom Thou dost admit to the Fire, truly thou
coverest with shame and never will wrongdoers find any
    helpers."

Surah 3: Al Imran: The Family of Imran (section 20, #197)
"Little is it for enjoyment: their [unbelievers] ultimate abode
is Hell; what an evil bed (to lie on)!"

Surah 4: Al Nisa: The Women (section 2, #14)
"But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress
His limits will be admitted to a Fire, to abide therein:
and they shall have a humilitating punishment."

Surah 4: Al Nisa: The Women (section 8, #56)
    "Those who reject our signs, we shall soon cast into the Fire;
as often as their skins are roasted through, we shall change
them for fresh skins that they may taste the penalty: for
Allah is exalted in power, wise."

Surah 4: Al Nisa: The Women (section 20, #140)
"... For Allah will collect the hypocrites and those who defy
Faith - all in Hell -."

Surah 4: Al Nisa: The Women (section 21, #145)
    "... The hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire;
no helper wilt thou find for them."

Surah 4: Al Nisa: The Women (section 23, #168)
"Those who reject Faith and do wrong - Allah will not forgive
them nor guide them to any way - except the way of Hell, to
dwell therein forever. And this to Allah is easy."

Surah 5: Al Maidah: The Repast (section 2, #10)
"Those who reject Faith and deny our signs, will be companions
    of Hell-fire."

Surah 5: Al Maidah: The Repast (section 5, #53)
"The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His
Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through
the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of
hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land:
that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment
    is theirs in the hereafter."

Surah 5: Al Maidah: The Repast (section 6, #36-37)
"As to those who reject Faith ... their wish will be to get
out of the Fire, but never will they get out therefrom: their
penalty will be one that endures."

Surah 5: Al Maidah: The Repast (section 11, #86)
"But those who reject our Faith and belie our signs - they shall
    be companions of Hell-fire."

Surah 7: Al Araf: The Heights (section 1, #4)
"How many towns have we destroyed (for their sins)? Our
punishment took them on a sudden by night or while they slept
    for their afternoon rest."

        Note: mini-genocide.

Surah 7: Al Araf: The Heights (section 4, #36)
"But those who reject our signs and treat them with arrogance
    - they are companions of the Fire to dwell therein (forever)."

Surah 7: Al Araf: The Heights (section 4, #38)
"He will say: Enter ye in the company of the peoples [unbelievers]
who passed away before you - men and Jinns - into the Fire.
Every time a new people [of unbelievers] enters, it curses its
sister-people (that went before), until they follow each other,
    all into the Fire."

NOTE: Why isn't "sister-people" another attempt at misogyny,
        why not use "brother-people"?

Surah 7: Al Araf: The Heights (section 6, #50)
"The companions of the Fire will call to the companions of the
Garden: 'Pour down to us water or anything that Allah doth
provide for your sustenance.' They will say: 'Both these
things hath Allah forbidden to those who reject Him -."

Surah 8: Al Anfal: The Spoils of War (section 2, #12)
"... I [Allah] will instil terror into the hearts of unbelievers:
smite ye above their necks and smite all their fingertips off
    them."

Surah 8: Al Anfal: The Spoils of War (section 2, #14)
"Thus (will it be said): 'Taste ye then of the (punishment):
for those who resist Allah, is the penalty of the Fire'."

Surah 8: Al Anfal: The Spoils of War (section 5, #38-39)
"Say to the unbelievers ... if they persist, the punishment of
those before them is already (a matter of warning for them).
And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression,
and there prevails justice and faith in Allah altogether and
    everywhere."

Surah 8: Al Anfal: The Spoils of War (section 8, #60)
"Against them [the unbelievers] make ready your strength to
the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike
terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your
enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom
    Allah doth know."

NOTE: Allegorically (a belief form accepted by the
"normals"), are not the 9/11 airplanes "steeds" that
        struck terror?

Surah 8: Al Anfal: The Spoils of War (section 9, #65)
"O Prophet! rouse the believers to the fight. If there are
twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will
vanquish two hundred: if a hundred, they will vanquish a
thousand of the unbelievers: for these are a people without
    understanding."

Surah 9: Al Tawbah: The Repentence (section 8, #63)

"Allah hath promised the hypocrites, men and women, and the
rejecters, of Faith, the Fire of Hell: therein shall they
dwell: sufficient is it for them: for them is the curse of
Allah, and an enduring punishment -".

Surah 9: Al Tawbah: The Repentence (section 10, #73)
"O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrite,
and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell - an evil refuge
    indeed."

Surah 9: Al Tawbah: The Repentence (section 16, #123)
"O ye who believe! Fight the unbelievers who gird you about,
and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with
    those who FEAR Him."

Surah 10: Yunus: Jonah (section 1, #4)
"... But those who reject [Allah] will have draughts of boiling
fluids, and a penalty grevious, because they did reject him."

"With the life of the present, and those who heed not our signs
     - their abode is the Fire, because of the (evil) they earned."

Surah 10: Yunus: Jonah (section 3, #27)
"But those who have earned evil will have a reward of like evil:
ignominy will cover their faces: no defender will they have from
(the wrath of) Allah: their faces will be covered, as it were,
from pieces from the depth of darkness of night: they are
companions of the Fire: they will abide therein (forever)!"

Surah 10: Yunus: Jonah (section 7, #69-70)
"Say: Those who invent a lie against Allah will never prosper.
A little enjoyment in this world! - and then, to us will abide
their return. Then we shall make them taste the severest
    penalty for their blasphemies."

Surah 11: Hud: The Prophet Hud (section 2, #15-16)
"Those who desire the life of the present and its glitter -
to them we shall pay (the price of) their deeds therein -
without diminution. They are those for whom there is nothing
in the hereafter but the Fire."

Surah 11: Hud: The Prophet Hud (section 9, #106)
"Those who are wretched shall be in the Fire: there will be
for them therein (nothing but) the heaving of sighs and sobs."

Surah 12: Al Rad: The Thunder (section 1, #5)
"If thou dost marvel (at their want of Faith) ... they are
those who deny their Lord! They are those round whose necks
will be yokes (of servitude): they will be companions of the
    Fire, to dwell therein (forever)."

Surah 12: Al Rad: The Thunder (section 2, #18)
"... But those who respond not to [Allah] - even if they had
all that is in the heavens and on earth, and as much more,
(in vain) would they offer it for ransom. For them will the
reckoning be terrible: their abode will be Hell - what a bed
    of misery!"

Surah 14: Ibrahim: Abraham (section 3, #16-17)
"In front of such a one [unbeliever] is Hell, and he is given
for drink, boiling fetid water. In gulps will he sip it,
but never will he be near swallowing it down his throat:
death will come to him from every quarter, yet will he not
die: and in front of him will be a chastisement unrelenting."

Surah 14: Ibrahim: Abraham (section 5, #28-29)
"Hast thou not turned thy vision to those who have changed the
favor of Allah into blasphemy and caused their people to
descend to the house of perdition? - into Hell? They will
burn therein - an evil place to stay in!"

Surah 14: Ibrahim: Abraham (section 5, #30)
"And they set up (idols) as equal to Allah, to mislead (men)
from the path! Say: Enjoy your brief power! But verily ye
    are making straightway to Hell!"

Surah 14: Ibrahim: Abraham (section 7, #49)
"And thou wilt see the sinners that day bound together in fetters
    - their garments will be liquid pitch, and their faces covered
    with Fire."

"And to those who believe not in the hereafter, (it announceth)
that we have prepared for them a penalty grevious (indeed)."

"... to such persons [who seek worldly pleasures] as we will:
in the end have we provided Hell for them: they will burn
    therein, disgraced and rejected."

Surah 17: Al Isra: The Night Journey (section 4, #33)
"Nor take life - which Allah has made sacred - except for
    just cause."

NOTE: Always way too dangerous for any god to allow people
to kill for any arbitrarily-defined "just" cause.

Surah 17: Al Isra: The Night Journey (section 11, #97)
"... But he whom [Allah] leaves astray - for such wilt thou
find no protector besides Him. On the Day of Judgment we shall
gather them together, prone on their faces, blind, dumb and
deaf: their abode will be hell: every time it shows abatement,
we shall increase for them the fierceness of the Fire."

NOTE: Not sure how this is being translated. Seems to
say that Allah will deliberately abandon some people so
they can then be burned in hell.

Surah 18: Al Kahf: The Cave (section 4, #29)
"... For the wrongdoers we have prepared a Fire whose (smoke
and flames), like the walls and roof of a tent, will hem them
in: if they implore relief they will be granted water like
melted brass that will scald their faces. ..."

Surah 18: Al Kahf: The Cave (section 8, #59)

Surah 22: Al Hajj: The Pilgrimage (section 2, #19-22)
"But those who deny (their Lord) - for them will be cut out
a garment of Fire: over their heads will be poured out boiling
water. With it will be scalded what is within their bodies,
as well as their skins. In addition there will be maces of
iron (to punish) them. Every time they wish to get away
therefrom, from anguish, they will be forced back therein,
and (it will be said), 'Taste ye the penalty of Burning!'."

lost their souls; in Hell will they abide. The Fire will
burn their faces, and they will therein grin, with their
    lips displaced."

and we have prepared for (all) wrongdoers a grievous penalty."

Surah 32: Al Sajdah: The Prostration (section 2, #20)
"As to those who are rebellious and wicked, their abode will
be the Fire: every time they wish to get away therefrom, they
will be forced thereinto, and it will be said to them: 'Taste
ye the penalty of the Fire, the which ye were wont to reject
    as false.'"

Surah 33: Al Ahzab: The Confederates (section 8, #64-65)

a blazing Fire - to dwell therein forever: no protector will
    they find, nor helper."

"Verily Satan is an enemy to you: so treat him as an enemy.

of the blazing Fire. For those who reject Allah, is a
    terrible penalty ...".

Surah 35: Fatir: The Originator of Creation (section 4, #36)
"But those who reject (Allah) - for them will be the Fire
of Hell: no term shall be determined for them, so they
should die, nor shall its penalty be lightened for them.
Thus do we reward every ungrateful one."

Surah 37: Al Saffat: Those Ranged in Ranks (section 2, #62-68)
"Is that better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqim? For
we have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrongdoers. For
it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell Fire:
the shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils:
truly they will eat thereof and fill their belies therewith.
Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of
boiling water. Then shall their return be to the (blazing)
    Fire."

Surah 38: Sad: (section 1, #2-3)
"But the unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and
separatism. How many generations before them did we
destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy) - when there
was no longer time for being saved."

        Note: mini-genocide

Surah 38: Sad: (section 4, #55-59)
"But - for the wrongdoers will be an evil place of (final)
return! Hell! - they will burn therein - an evil bed
(indeed to lie on)! - Yea, such! - then shall they taste
it - a boiling fluid, and a fluid dark, murky, intensely
cold! - and other penalties of a similar kind. To match
them! Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No
welcome for them! Truly, they shall burn in the Fire!"

Surah 39: Al Zumar: Crowds (section 4, #32)

in the Fire shall they be burned; ..."

Surah 44: Al Dukhan: The Smoke (section 3, #43-48)
"Verily the tree of Zaqqum will be the food of the sinful -

with a penalty of humiliation" ..."

Surah 47: Muhammad: (section 1, #4)
"Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers in fight, smite at
    their necks; ..."

Surah 47: Muhammadd: (section 2, #12)

eat as cattle eat; and the Fire will be their abode."

"And that he may punish the hypocrites, men and women, and the
polytheists, men and women, who imagine an evil opinion of
Allah. On them is a round of evil: the wrath of Allah is on
them: he has cursed them and got Hell ready for them: and evil
    is it for a destination."

Note: it is an evil opinion to say that Allah tortures
